Over
a hundred years ago there were thousands of students that were identifying
with God`s heart for the nations. This corporate surrender to God`s
will was identified as the Student Volunteer Movement. Students
became part of the movement by signing a pledge, "It is my purpose,
if God permit, to become a foreign missionary." In a period of 30-40
years 20,500 students traveled to the foreign fields and 80,000
stayed at home to support them. The impact of that generation of
young people will only be revealed in eternity.
Over the last five years, key leaders in Fundamentalism have become
aware of a growing trend among college students. There has been
an expressed desire by many college students to identify with God`s
heart for the nations. Groups have sprung up on college campuses
to inform and inspire each other with what God is doing across the
globe today. The question was asked how these college students could
be ministered to and aided in their quest of fulfilling their role
in the great commission. Hence the ministry of Student Global Impact
was born as pastors and students recognized what God was doing.
